Brother Metal
Brother Cesare has apparently found a link, as well as a unifying difference between his spiritual commitment & life itself. Hard rock & Heavy Metal has often been described has a bunch of devil worshipers screaming monkeys..., but this 62 years found in his soul something closer to life than god itself. As he likes to mention in this BBC's interview (click the image to see the video), in his music he does not look to draw people to god, but prefer to bring them to life, singing about sex, drug & alcohol while warning about the optional excess use. "I do it to convert people to life, to understand life, to grab hold of life, to savor it and enjoy it."
Brother Cesare, crossed to the hardcore heavy metal land after hearing a Metallica concert 15 years ago. He then started to record himself on cassette tape using "lighter" version of this genre, but quickly realized that the watered down music, did not do anything to his soul. He then, went for the real thing, finding his personal expression, amazed by the energy this music inflicted on him.
Apparently, crossing these sub-cultures did not register any difficulty in him... but it was a problem for his now band-mates who hesitated taking the monk with them. After 5mn of hearing him, they made him part of the club. It is now more an issue with the public, preferring to believe that he is a robe monk act on stage rather than believing he is actually a real man of god performing a cross-cultural miracle.
How many cultures has brother metal crossed? Let see... Music genres, spiritual and philosophical ideologies, generational gap... & probably fashion culture... the beard reminding us ZZtop.
