Heraldry, the new-old Branding

The work of Wesseling stands in a place between art, design & fashion. It seems you can take something interesting from it from whatever angle.
From the artistic stand point, Wesseling revive the mindset of visual allegorists using the icons of our times: corporate logos, historical & cultural symbols as well as colors.
In terms of design, I can not really imagine how some supporters are feeling when they see their team armory stitched with the competing team wear by a single person... but I would not try to hang with it in a British or French stadium. Cross-culture & cultural identity tend to steer-up emotions. Wesseling's work is brilliant in making this demonstration.
Jerseys and sportwear in general are now streetwear. They have become the canvas to express tribal affiliations & ownership (sponsorship). While heraldry originate from a militaristic branding necessity, sports has come to espouse similar principals making sportsmanship and fashion a powerful display of cultural identity.
