Nagi Noda R.I.P.
Nagi Noda can now be counted among eternally young artists, who seems to know, deep inside, they do not have much to time on earth & create things constantly with a contagious passion, leaving us with the impression that their lives has been much more long than the reality of a number.
The best known work from her is certainly the aerobic poodle coach video. It also reflect well her personal way of mixing everything that suppose to not be found together and create a parallel world of her own.
According to her biography on Partizan, the video production agency representing her, she was raise by very "artistic parents" who introduced her to hundreds of movies, theater plays & ballets while she was just 1 year old.
At 9 she went to NYC and came back to Japan at the age of 13. She then focused on graphic design to expand into CG, contemporary art, fashion & music.
Noda is the cross-cultural artist per-excellence, the way she was brought up, the multiple foreign & local influences made her found a creative way to "filter" these huge amount of visual impression she was not always capable to interpret or understand. By creating her own "cosmos" she gave herself a better control over an artificial environment compared to the real world that often resemble a power hose of meaningless information.
She will obviously be missed, but the legacy of her work will definitively continue to influence eastern & western creators.
